HOW TO RUN A DIESEL VEHICLE ON VEGETABLE OIL!

There are several different systems but due to extensive research we are able to offer what we consider to be the best solution.

For a Two Tank System. In order to successfully run your vehicle on vegetable oil, it must be heated and introduced to a warm engine. This system is designed so that you start up normally on Diesel, switch over to vegetable oil when at normal operating temperature, run all day, if you stop during the day for an hour or so you do not need to switch back to diesel because the engine will still be warm, at the end of the day switch back to diesel, run for a few minutes and switch off, this ensures engine can be started next morning on Diesel.

The first thing to find out is whether your vehicle is Common Rail (usually found on newer vehicles). Or if not, your rotary or inline injector pump is a Bosch or a Lucas/Cav. Bosch and its copies are particularly tolerant of veg oil and usually convert OK, Lucas less so because it is inadvisable to leave cold veg oil in this type of pump. However if the startup and stop rules as explained above, are adhered to it should also be OK. The Quick Purge with Alarm is particularly useful anyway, but for Lucas equipped vehicles it is a godsend as it will ensure that you switch to diesel for your next mornings startup.

Using vegetable oil in an un-modified vehicle is not recommended as starting from cold can be problematic in terms of correct atomisation, cold veg oil can be about five times thicker than Diesel, if the fuel is not atomised correctly it can form big globules resulting in unburned fuels coming from exhaust and may cause polymerisation on the bores creating premature engine wear and increased engine oil contamination. Even mixing veg oil with diesel can cause the same problems to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the amounts used, even if the vehicle appears to start ok. Running in this manner would likely be suicidal for an unmodified Lucas pump.

For Bosch inline and rotary injection pumps and its clones, Nippon Denso, Diesel Kiki, Doowon, Zexel etc, and tentatively Lucas Rotary the Two Tank  kit 8mm 12v is now just £850 + vat (fully fitted) with 22l start-up diesel tank (vegetable oil goes into original tank so range is unaffected) and FREE quick purge timer with safety warning alarm (worth around £90.00). It includes everything necessary, except coolant hose kit as we do not normally know the size of the hoses coming to and from your heater matrix (going through the bulkhead) we sell these kits seperately. The 1/2" kit costs £17.57, if your heater hose is 1/2" internal diameter this is all you will need, if 5/8" it is £21.09, if 3/4" £26.97. Installation Usually takes just one day . If required, larger tanks can be fitted for vegetable oil, using your existing tank for diesel at extra cost. For vehicles, usually larger vans cars and commercials 10mm and 13mm kits are available either 12v or 24v.

For Common Rail (CDi and PDi) 2 tank system price inc 22l start-up diesel tank (again vegetable oil goes into original tank so range is unaffected) fully fitted around £1200.00 + VAT. Usually takes two days to fit.

The 22l gerry can sized tank can be fitted in boot, or on the wheel arch if it is a van, it has a very small footprint so takes up little room, this has a breather tube so you get no nasty smells.

On certain engines, pre combustion type with Bosch type pumps and VW / Audi direct injection (not common rail or Lucas pumps), One tank systems can be fitted. You can put pure Rapeseed oil into the original tank and indeed any mix from veg oil to diesel, and start and stop as you normally would. Price fitted from £1,250.00 + vat. Takes 3 days to fit or if VW / Audi engines 5 days to fit.

Conversions are at present carried out by us in Nuneaton, although we can offer in certain cases a mobile service.

Fuel Consumption and Power is similar to that of Diesel.

Veg oil can be obtained from supermarkets and cash & carry or wholesalers. It can also be collected waste, processed and used. It can also be cold pressed from rapeseed. Rapeseed Oil is the best to use. At present we cannot deliver, as the costs of transport would outweigh any savings for you. We are, however working towards opening countrywide outlets for the supply of not only the fuel but fitting and selling our DIY kits as well. Would you or any mechanics / garages that you know be interested? The organisations that we appoint in the future as FocEnergy fitting and oil supply centres would however have to be able to carry out this business to a very high standard. Excellence is our requirement, so only go getters with professional people around them need apply.
